A municipality located in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne are actively seeking a Principle Strategic Planner to join its department on a contract basis to help take a lead role in delivering an extensive planning portfolio.

As a senior member of the City Sustainability department, you will provide a high level of strategic land use planning, policy development, advice and research to various stakeholders for council. You will project manage and co-ordinate the review and development of local structure plans, activity centre plans, community plans, open space plans, development guidelines, policy statements and strategic framework plans for the municipality.

In addition you will be responsible for small to large scale planning scheme amendments where your consultation, mediation and conflict resolution skills will play a significant part in your success when dealing with developers, consultants and the like.

The successful planner will have:

• A tertiary qualification in Town Planning or equivalent. 
• A sound knowledge of the relevant Victoria Planning Provisions and state, regional & local planning policies and acts.
• Proven experience leading large scale planning projects within the public and/or private sector.
• The ability to identify stakeholders/customer needs and expectations, decide appropriate action and respond accordingly.
• Well developed skills in negotiation and conflict resolution with the ability to deal with difficult situations and present a positive council image.
• Experience in mentoring less experienced planners
• Well developed oral and written communication skills.
